Oooh a blank page. So hopeful and full of possibility, yet with the power to make me feel like an illiterate fraud. But I did say I would start a blog, so here it is. What does one write in a first blog post? Introductions? I'm an amateur nail polish enthusiast, and it's week ten of lockdown here in England. I hope that, as life returns to normal, I'll still have the time, energy and inclination to obsess about holographic flakies that aren't in my budget. I work a busy, tiring and important job when not painting my nails, and am a lover of dogs, books, travel and acquiring mostly unhelpful general knowledge. I've never really been a big nail painter, and my natural nails are very soft, so the only way I can grow them beyond my nail line is with a gel manicure. And thus it was in October 2019 that I went to the salon for my first gel mani since my wedding eight years ago, only to be horribly disappointed. Naturally I decided I could do a better job and taught myself to do my own gels. I also get bored quite quickly so I started using normal nail polish over the gel when I needed a change and didn't have six hours to spare. I'm very slow. And eventually I started to try a bit of nail art, inspired mostly by Pinterest and Instagram. Soon I was watching YouTube nail art tutorials by the dozen, and it was here that I discovered Simply Nailogical - NOT in a nail art tutorial, but in the exploding nail polish remover video - and this soon led to a lockdown-long marathon of Simply and the awakening of my burgeoning holosexuality, as well as the concept that I too could do nail stuff for fun. I began building my nail polish collection (mostly on the cheap through outlets and Poundland) and am currently obsessing over UK indie polishes. However, with that said, it is my life's goal (for the time being) to get my hands on some real Holo Taco. I can't justify the cost of shipping at the moment, but you can bet there will be some unashamed hint-dropping before Christmas and my birthday. At the moment I'm enjoying trying different things on my nails, learning to photograph them well and experimenting with swatching and reviewing. My long term plan with this blog and my Instagram account is to do what I've so appreciated from other nail bloggers - to help people by providing accurate information and real experiences with products so they can make the best decisions about them. I hope to become well informed and as knowledgeable as a non-professional can be so that I can produce helpful reviews. Also, nail polish is pretty and I like looking at it. Especially if it's holo.
