In Detail: The Evolutions Collection
The Evolutions is a nine-piece collection launched on 31st July from Dystopia Nail Polish in collaboration with Nailastrophic. Each polish in the collection is inspired by the different evolutions of Eevee. Here, we’ll take a closer look at each polish and the Pokémon that inspired them. Swatches and reviews by @nailastrophic, who was gifted the collection for swatches.
The Original

A warm peach-leaning brown shade with holo glitter, inspired by Eevee, the Evolution Pokémon. A lovely neutral polish, opaque in two easy coats with a glossy finish. Shown here with no topcoat, it also looks absolutely fab with a matte topcoat! The formula is very smooth and the polish glides on beautifully.
The Water Evolution

Inspired by the water Pokémon Vaporeon, this polish is a blue crelly filled with holo sparkles, and it comes with an optional bag of different sized round holo glitters for easy individual glitter placement. Shown here both layered over the round holo glitters and with them placed over the top for depth, the inspiration for this finish came from the water move Bubblebeam! Shown here in two coats with a glossy topcoat to smooth out those large round glitters, this polish has a very smooth formula for easy application and, despite being a crelly, does only require two coats for opacity.
The Electric Evolution

Inspired by Jolteon, this polish is an absolutely jam packed flakie holo topper, with optional gold holo lightning bolt glitters for easy individual placement. No explanation needed for what inspired this lightning bolt look! Shown here over Jonathan (blue) and Karen (pink) stamping cremes, also from Dystopia polish, one coat is all you need over your favourite colour for a serious holo infusion. Shown here with a glossy topcoat to smooth everything over, this polish is quite smooth on its own but if you prefer a glassy finish, one coat of topcoat is all you’ll need.
The Fire Evolution

Inspired by Flareon, we decided to go in a different direction from the red and orange fire-inspired polishes we all know and love, and instead took inspiration from embers dancing in the dark. This deep navy jelly base is full of red, blue, gold and orange flakies as well as holo glitter. The formula is quite chunky as a result of all of the flakies, giving a very textured finish, so if you prefer a smooth finish you will definitely need a good coat of topcoat! This polish was opaque in two coats and is shown here with a glossy topcoat.
The Psychic Evolution

Inspired by Espeon and the move Psychic, this dark purple jelly polish is packed full of pink and purple multichrome flakes and hints of blue and silver. Despite all the flakies the formula is actually very smooth, and glides on easily for opacity in two coats. Shown here without topcoat!
The Dark Evolution (Shiny)

Of course every Pokémon trainer should get a Shiny at some point in their career- so here’s ours, inspired by Umbreon’s Shiny form! This is a magnetic polish, so you’ll need a magnet to get that nice defined line. The base has scattered holo sparkles, just like a Shiny Pokémon, and the magnetic blue particles are inspired by Shiny Umbreon’s blue markings. This polish was opaque in 2 coats, was easy to magnetise, and is shown here without topcoat, and with a matte topcoat.
The Grass Evolution

Inspired by Leafeon, this polish finish was inspired by summer grass- a fresh grassy green with gold and green flakes and hints of brown. This polish is smooth and creamy, was opaque in two easy coats, and is shown here both on its own without topcoat, and with a matte topcoat.
The Ice Evolution

Inspired by Glaceon, and ice floes in dark arctic waters, this polish is a deep teal blue jelly polish with shards of holo and regular holo glitter. As with most shards, a little wiggle during application helps to transfer the shards from the brush to the nail! This polish was opaque in two coats, and is shown here with a glossy topcoat to smooth the shards down. It also has a very, very slight thermal transition- it’s slightly darker when it’s cold.
The Fairy Evolution

Inspired by Sylveon, this polish – my favourite out of the collection, by the way – is a gorgeous pale pink to pale blurple thermal polish with scattered holo glitter and a beautiful satiny finish. The glitter does create a slightly textured finish, so you may want to smooth it out with a glossy or matte topcoat. Opaque in 2 easy coats, with a beautiful sparkle.
